Five schools in Nanshan District and 57 schools in Futian District have opened their sports facilities free of charge to the public during the summer holiday, providing more venue options for citizens to exercise.

While the reservation for the use of sports facilities in schools gradually resumes, some residents have suggested that the opening hours of these sports facilities be extended and more school venues be opened to the public, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported.

“You can make an appointment every day. Most of them [who make reservations] are students. It’s best to make an appointment in advance since twice as many people usually come over the weekend,” the entrance guard of Futian District Science Middle School told the Daily.

The school’s track field and basketball courts are open to the public for reservation, according to the one-stop reservation platform on the “幸福福田” (happyfutian) WeChat account. The school’s track field opening hours are from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., while the basketball courts are open eight hours a day.

In addition to the 57 schools in Futian, reservations can also be made for the use of sports facilities in five schools in Nanshan, said the Daily.

However, for some citizens who need to work in the daytime, the opening hours of the sports facilities in schools are short.

“We want to exercise, but the time is not very convenient,” a citizen identified as Xiaofei, who lives in Meilin, Futian District, told the Daily. “When I go home at 7 p.m., the schools’ sports facilities are already closed. I suggest that the opening hours be extended appropriately.”

Xiaofei hoped that more schools can open their sports venues to the public, according to the Daily report.
