A list of 12 service items for senior citizens was released by the Shenzhen Municipal Civil Affairs Bureau at the service center for senior citizens in Taoyuan Subdistrict, Nanshan District on Tuesday, Shenzhen Economic Daily reported.

According to the list, Shenzhen plans to achieve full coverage of smart water meters in the residences of local seniors who live alone at the end of this year.

The city will conduct senior-friendly home renovations and improvements for locals over the age of 60 who experience moderate or severe disability or for those over 80 years old in 500 households throughout the year.

It is planned that at least one demonstration subdistrict of “four-level elderly care service network” will be built in each district by the end of this year. The municipal civil affairs department will gradually expand the coverage and application of Yinian card, a senior citizen ID card designed for elderly care services.

At present, the number of banks that accept the application of Yinian cards has been increased from one to three. The banks, namely Ping An Bank, China Construction Bank, and Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, have a total of 456 service outlets across the city offering the cards.

As one of the new major service items this year, a baseline survey on the status quo of the population aged 60 years and older and the demand for elderly care services in Shenzhen was officially launched Tuesday.

The survey is said to be the city’s very first comprehensive survey of the current situation and needs of the city’s elderly population. It is aimed to provide data support for the optimal allocation of elderly care resources and targeted provision of elderly care services to meet the personalized needs of older citizens.
