A large number of high-tech enterprises and scientific research institutions in Shenzhen have demonstrated that Shenzhen eagerly embraces top talents from all walks of life, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported yesterday.
In this year’s graduation season, Shenzhen-based company Huawei was thrust into the spotlight again after it recruited a Ph.D. student from Huazhong University of Science and Technology with an annual salary of 2.01 million yuan (US$310,143).
This is the third straight year that Huawei has implemented its top minds recruitment program, which aims to attract top talents with top challenges and top salaries. Apart from temptingly high salaries, Huawei also promises to support the program’s candidates to solve world-class challenging issues and provide them with mentors, a global vision, platform and resources.
So far, Huawei has recruited 17 candidates into its top minds recruitment program, five of whom have received the highest annual salary offer of 2.01 million yuan, according to the Daily.
Huawei is not the only company that seeks top talents. Since 2003, Tencent has recruited upwards of 20,000 graduates, accounting for more than 35 percent of the company’s recruitment. Alpha Geeks account for about 65 percent of the total number of fresh college graduates it enrolls every year.
On July 14, Tencent announced that it plans to grant over 2.4 million incentive shares to no less than 3,300 employees in a bid to recognize employee contributions, and attract and retain talents needed for the company’s sustainable operation and development.
In the past 10 years, automobile manufacturer BYD has recruited more than 40,000 fresh college graduates, including more than 30,000 highly educated R&D engineers.
In April this year, the Kuang-Chi Institute of Advanced Technology launched the “Qian Xuesen Plan” in cooperation with universities to jointly cultivate Ph.D. students and establish a high-level talent team for metamaterials.
The institute has recruited 135 postdoctoral scholars so far and is expected to see its 100th postdoctoral scholar finish his/her research stint at the institute this year.
Attracting top talents is not only limited to high-tech enterprises and scientific research institutions, but also is Shenzhen’s primary strategy as a city of scientific and technological innovation. Statistics show that at present, Shenzhen houses nearly 18,000 high-level talents and over 150,000 returning talents after studying abroad.
