A faculty for international exchanges that covers an area of 20 hectares will rise in the northern area of Xiangmihu in Futian District, the city’s development and reform commission said yesterday.
The facility called the Shenzhen International Exchange Center will have a total floor space of 470,000 square meters.
It is encompassed by Qiaoxiang Road in the north, Xiangmihu Road in the west and Hongli Road West in the south. Facing the Xiangmi Lake, it will be a new city lounge surrounded by the lake and Xiangmi Park.
The center is divided into a conference area and an auxiliary facility area. The conference area has 60 conference rooms and dining halls of different sizes that can simultaneously accommodate 15,000 people.
During the inauguration ceremony yesterday attended by Wang Weizhong, Shenzhen’s Party chief, and Mayor Chen Rugui, the city kicked off a total of 222 projects with total investments of 264.5 billion yuan (US$41 billion).
Among them, 60 are infrastructure projects, 44 projects are related to improving residents’ well-being and 42 are industrial projects.
The 4.9-square-kilometer Xiangmihu area is divided into three sections — the southern, central and northern sections — separated by Hongli Road and Shennan Boulevard, and will be turned into an ecologically sustainable area.
The government agencies are retrieving the southern section of the area that was occupied by Shenzhen Golf Club.
The club covers 1.33 square kilometers and sits between Shennan Boulevard and Binhe Boulevard. The operating license of the golf club expired Feb. 17, 2015.
The development of the golf course land will be included in the overall plan for the Xiangmihu area and residents suggested turning the golf club into a public park, according to earlier reports.
