SZ exports retain top spot in China

Shenzhen's exports reached 1.7 trillion yuan (US$263 billion) in 2020, up 1.5 percent year on year, ranking fi rst for the 28th consecutive year among major Chinese cities, Shenzhen Media Group reported yesterday, quoting statistics of Shenzhen Customs.


The total foreign trade that also includes imports reached 3.05 trillion yuan, increasing 2.4 percent year on year, taking the second spot. Imports climbed 3.6 percent to 1.35 trillion yuan, ranking third.


Shenzhen was the fi rst among the country’s fi ve largest cities for exports to realize positive growth last July.


Shenzhen-made products for COVID-19 prevention and control worth 111.6 billion yuan were exported last year, 3.6 times over 2019.


The city’s trade with Belt and Road countries reached 673.47 billion yuan, up 2.1 percent, a new historic record.


Private enterprises contributed 1.81 trillion yuan, or 60 percent, to the city’s total foreign trade last year, increasing 5.7 percent year on year.


The Comen Medical Instruments Co. Ltd. in Guangming District, a manufacturer in monitoring devices and anesthesia machines, saw its foreign trade increase fourfold in 2020, said Zhong Aimin with the company.


Tianlong Science and Technology Group is a phone maker in Nanshan District, whose products have been sold to Belt and Road countries. In the most recent two months, it has received booming orders that almost used up its capacity, Cao Yong, vice president of the fi rm, said.


E-commerce sales and sales of household products also increased signifi cantly. The statistics showed the products relating to the household economy like computers, audio-video equipment and household appliances generated 317.3 billion yuan, up 7.9 percent and making up 18.7 percent of the city’s total foreign trade.
