A growing number of schools in the city have built different themed museums on campus in recent years to provide students with a resource for learning about related culture, Shenzhen Evening News reported Monday.

Shenzhen Yucai No. 2 School in Nanshan opened the country’s first K12 school bookplate museum prior to the 2021 New Year.

The first Chinese character museum in the country opened in Pingshan Experimental School on Dec. 13 in 2019.

The country’s first primary and secondary school film museum opened in Nanshan Xili Primary School in 2018.

As early as 2013, a blue-and-white porcelain museum opened in Meilin Middle School in Futian District.

There are 16 school museums in Nanshan District alone, Shenzhen Evening News reported.

Each of the museums has their own specialty.

In Xili Primary School, students can ask to go to the film museum to watch movies when feeling bored in class. Teachers cannot reject a student’s request, according to the school’s principal Zhang Guangfu.

There are 12 computers for students to watch movies in the film museum.

Students can share their thoughts by leaving notes in the interaction area of the museum.

Students’ interests are greatly expanded when a school has a museum as they are intrigued to ask questions on items exhibited in museums.

Wang Hong, the principal of Yucai No. 2 Primary School, believes that the founding of school museums can profoundly promote student passions and interests in creating.

Gao Qing, the teacher in charge of museum courses in Nanshan, said that the country and schools are working to bring museums and school courses together.

In recent years, a series of policies were published by the country to help blend museums and teaching resources.

Wang Hong observed that schools should not use museums as a gimmick as the building of museums needs time and dedication.

Ma Ganfei, principal of Meilin Middle School, said that school museums require high standards, adding “that is why it is necessary to provide a series of teaching activities to use the museums as a means to educate and to pass down culture.”
