Nanshan District has become the most congested region in the city, according to a new report.

The report shows that the time spent on roads during morning and afternoon rush hours in Nanshan is 1.84 times that of travel in a smooth traffic flow.

The report was jointly released by Amap, the Department of Big Data Development of the State Information Center and Tsinghua Daimler Research Center for Sustainable Transportation.

The report also includes a list of the top 10 busiest commuter routes in cities across the country, mainly in high-tech industrial park areas.

Among them, the commuter route linking Shenzhen’s No. 11 Road, Yueliangwan Boulevard, Beihuan Boulevard and Gaoxingzhong No. 1 Road ranked sixth, with an average commuting distance of 7.1 kilometers and a drive time of 28 minutes.

Shenzhen tops megacities in the country in terms of ground public transportation happiness index, suggesting that Shenzhen’s public bus service is highly efficient and reliable.

Other major cities in the country that do a good job in providing ground public transportation services include Ningbo, Shijiazhuang and Nanjing.

Traffic congestion in the country’s major cities in 2020 was down 2.5 percent year on year.

The lowest congestion rate was seen in February last year, a result of the pandemic. Starting in May, with the resumption of production, traffic congestion increased sharply, according to the report.
