Environmental volunteers stand behind a life-size sculpture of a sperm whale at a ceremony on Jinshawan beach in Dapeng New Area in eastern Shenzhen yesterday to launch Dapeng Project Care and “Fall of Whale” Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Macao Ocean Cleanup Alliance. The event was inspired by a stranded pregnant sperm whale found dead in Daya Bay in March 2017. The sculpture, designed by a local ocean artist, will be on display on Xichong beach to raise public awareness of ocean protection.
