Official WeChat account iShenzhen has won three awards in a digital media competition for its role in combating COVID-19, the Daily Sunshine reported.

The account, owned by the Shenzhen Municipal Government Service Data Administration, won the 2020 most influential government new media official account from the 2020 Shenzhen Outstanding Government New Media and We Media Online Ballot/New Media Big Hits Contest.

This year, since the COVID-19 outbreak, iShenzhen has served the public by spreading information about epidemic prevention and control, providing authoritative information and policy and upgrading their online service platform to make it more convenient for people and enterprises, according to the award citation. The account has thus become a reliable source to residents.

From Jan. 20 to Oct. 28, iShenzhen published 4,014 articles, accumulating more than 130 million hits and close to 7 million subscribers, becoming one of the most popular official government WeChat accounts, the Daily Sunshine reported.

During the outbreak, iShenzhen app provided features including government services and entertainment, which allowed people to access services while staying at home, thereby reducing the risk of cross infection.

The contest was supervised by the Shenzhen Internet Information Office and jointly hosted by Shenzhen Municipal Press Release Hall and sznews.com. Over 60 government new media and media run by individuals or private organizations were entered into the contest, and the jury was formed by experts and scholars from universities, representatives from State media and Internet users.

The operation center of iShenzhen was awarded as an “Advanced Team” at a city-level meeting held to honor role models in Shenzhen’s fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, the iShenzhen app added six new services for Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport, which consists of baggage tracking, expedited security check, connecting flight information, indoor GPS, customer service, and a directory for shops and restaurants, according to a Shenzhen Evening News report.
