Shenzhen plans to launch a waste classification supervision system to make the supervision of garbage sorting smarter and realize the closed-loop management of the whole process of waste classification, Shenzhen Evening News reported.

As of the end of September this year, 3,508 residential estates and 1,718 urban villages in the city had all implemented a centralized model for classified waste disposal, which features collection of garbage in designated places and garbage sorting supervision at fixed times and locations.

A total of 10,344 garbage sorting stations have been placed at 3,508 residential estates and 10,962 stations have been set up in urban villages across the city as of the end of last month, according to the city’s urban administration and law enforcement bureau.

Data show that Shenzhen currently collects 5,623 tons of household waste per day. The market-oriented recycling of renewable resources is about 6,600 tons per day, and the recycling rate of domestic waste reaches 40.2 percent.
