In partnership with the Shenzhen Municipal Government, the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), the leading national scientific institution in natural sciences and high-tech development in China, will build a research-type technology university in Guangming District, according to a plan released by the district government.
The CAS Shenzhen University of Technology, which is located across the road and facing the Shenzhen campus of Sun Yat-sen University, covers 47 hectares. It is adjacent to Zhongda Station and Science and Technology East Station of the spur line of Metro Line 6.
In 2018, the Shenzhen government signed an agreement to build CAS Shenzhen University of Technology. In March 2020, Guangming District signed an agreement with the university to build an affiliated experimental school to the university that includes departments from kindergarten to high school.
Construction of the university started earlier this month. According to the blueprint, the university will be a top-level independent university benefiting from the academic support provided by the Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
The university will focus on cultivating talent in life science, intelligent engineering, advanced manufacturing, new energy and new materials.
The university will start enrollment of students for graduate studies this year. A makeshift building of 95,000 square meters in Guangming Binhai Mingzhu Industrial Park will be used as a transitional campus before the end of the year.
The university will eventually have about 10,000 students for undergraduate and graduate studies.
