Shenzhen will raise the salary of primary and secondary school teachers to ensure that their average pay is not below the average salary of the city’s public servants, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported.

Over the next five years, the city will reform the salary mechanism for primary and secondary school teachers to increase their pay so as to encourage brilliant teachers to stay.

At the same time, more opportunities will be given to teachers to apply for public rental housing, affordable housing and housing for talented workers.

Related industries are advised to give priority to teachers when providing public services.

This is another move that the city has taken to attract high-quality teachers, expand the teacher workforce and increase the number of school places.

The issue of school places in a school has been a focus of citizens. The city plans to further increase school places over five years to ensure adequate school seats are available.

Specific plans are to add 201,000 primary school places, 99,000 junior high school places and 97,000 senior high school places by 2025, according to the report.
