Shenzhen high-speed rail stations estimate they will handle 13.22 million trips during the two-month summer travel season that will start today.
The stations for regular trains will handle 1.8 million passengers over the two months, sources from Shenzhen North Railway Station showed.
The travelers of the summer holiday season are mainly students, tourists and business travelers. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, schools, colleges and universities in the country all have different times for the closing of term, but the travel peak for students is expected to hit in mid-August.
Shenzhen North Railway Station will increase its train transportation capacity by doubling the number carriages, from the current eight cars to 16 cars, on 54 pairs of trains including 21 pairs on the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong rail line and 33 pairs on the Hangzhou-Shenzhen railway.
Based on regular schedules, it will add 10 pairs of trains for express travel to Guangzhou, Changsha and Shantou, and five pairs of unscheduled trains to Shantou and Chaoshan.
For regular train services, the operator will add K9052/1 between Shenzhen East Station and Huaihua to handle peak travel and six pairs of temporary trains between Shenzhen and Yueyang, Liling and Nanxiong. The trains include K4355/6 with Nanchang, K6610/09 with Yueyang, K6582/1 with Liling, K6532/1 with Nanxiong, K6512/1 with Shaoguan and K6552/1 with Yongzhou.
