Shenzhen 2019 GDP up 6.7%

The city’s GDP grew by 6.7 percent year on year in 2019, reaching 2.69 trillion yuan (US$381.40 billion), figures released Wednesday on the official website of the Shenzhen Municipal Statistics Bureau showed.

The GDP per capita was up 3 percent reaching 203,489 yuan, equivalent to US$29,498 if calculated by the average exchange rate of yuan and U.S. dollars in 2019.

Among the four pillar industries of the city’s economy, the culture sector recorded the largest growth of 18.5 percent at 184.95 billion yuan from the previous year. The high-tech industry grew 11.3 percent to 923.09 billion yuan from 2018. The finance industry went up 9.1 percent year on year to 366.76 billion yuan and the logistics sector reported a growth of 7.5 percent to 273.98 billion yuan.

Separately, Shenzhen had 4.95 million permanent residents with hukou by the end of last year, accounting for 37 percent of the city’s population of permanent residents of 13.44 million.
