Mask scammers punished

In the past week, Shenzhen police have busted several online mask sale scams, police said Wednesday.

On Jan. 29, a woman surnamed He in Longhua District was blocked by an unverified online seller after she paid 450 yuan (US$64) for masks through WeChat. Police caught the suspect, surnamed Sun, on Monday in Guangming District. Sun had acquired 1,200 yuan by cheating He and five others through the scheme.

In a similar case Monday, a woman surnamed Zhang aged 26 was caught in Longgang after acquiring 1,200 yuan through another online scam. Police seized two mobile phones and three bank cards used in the scheme.

Pingshan police arrested two suspects Cong, 21, and Wen, 24, in two separate scam cases with the help of local police in the city of Dandong in Liaoning Province and Meizhou in Guangdong Province. The two suspects acquired 9,200 yuan in two scams.
