Radio and TV group debuts

THE Shenzhen Radio, Film and Television Group was established Monday marking another important step toward building Shenzhen into a cultural city.

Following the establishment of the Shenzhen Press Group on Sept. 30, 2002 and the Shenzhen Distribution Group last Tuesday, the founding of the radio and television group signified the fulfillment of the municipal government's endeavor to reconstruct the city's three major cultural industries, said Li Yizhen, vice secretary of the Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the CPC.

Huang Liman, secretary of the Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the CPC, also attended the opening ceremony.

The radio and television group comprises Shenzhen TV Station (SZTV), Shenzhen Radio Station (SZRS), Shenzhen Film Studio (SZFS), Shenzhen Topway Video Communication Co. Ltd. and other broadcasting and television stations in the city's six districts with total assets of more than three billion yuan (US$360 million).

The backbone of the new group, SZTV was established in 1983 and merged with Shenzhen Cable TV Station in March 2002.

SZTV now runs nine programs produced by itself and relays 94 TV programs from home and abroad with an audience totaling more than 35 million people.
