B&Q to set up third outlet here

THE Britain-based B&Q, one of the biggest home improvement retailers in Europe, announced Monday it would open a third outlet in Shenzhen in April.

The store, to be located on the first floor of the Yunsong Building on Binhe Thoroughfare in the Tairan industrial zone, covers 12,000sqm.

The retailer, which will have established three stores in Shenzhen in two years, said it was developing at a faster pace in Shenzhen compared with other cities in China.

The turnover of the Luohu outlet topped all its stores worldwide.

B&Q's mother company, Kingfisher, also announced it would relocate its Asian procurement center to Shenzhen in April. Kingfisher spent more than US$1 billion on commodities in China for the first time last year. Lured by business potential, Kingfisher recently moved its headquarters from the U.K. to Hong Kong.

B&Q will establish six to seven outlets in Shenzhen in the next three years. The company is reputed to be the No. 1 DIY retailer in Europe and the third largest in the world, with more than 65 stores internationally, including B&Q Yangpu in Shanghai, which is now the world’s largest B&Q store.(Mu Zi)
