The city's social aid administration has initiated an immediate response by providing shelters and patrolling streets to search for homeless people Monday after an orange alert for cold weather was issued.

The minimum temperature was expected to drop to 3-4°C today, according to the Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory.

In response to a new round of cold front that has swept multiple provinces across the country and is expected to see the city's temperatures drop to 5°C and below, the city's social aid administration has prepared materials and medicines and given out quilts, blankets, clothes, and outfits to people taking shelter.

In addition, the administration sent employees to search for homeless people at railway stations, tunnels, and deserted houses and persuade them to take shelter at social aid stations or temporary public shelters.

Residents are advised to keep warm in the chilly weather that is expected to last until Friday. Those who need help can call the city's social aid administration service hotlines at 82433326, 28930450 (Longgang District), and 27590594 (Bao'an District) for help.

The city's emergency administration also reminded those who work outdoors to take measures to keep warm and reduce their time outdoors. Residents are advised to be aware of safety when using household appliances and heating gases and to maintain adequate ventilation to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning when using charcoal hotpots or taking showers.

Guangdong has initiated a Grade IV response for cold weather and 12 counties and cities in northern Guangdong have issued a red alert as the temperature in the mountainous areas of Shaoguan and Qingyuan dropped below 0°C.

The temperatures at the top of Wutong Mountain in Shenzhen plummeted below freezing yesterday. At 8 a.m. yesterday, Dawutong Observatory Station recorded -2.8°C, while the Xiaowutong station registered -1.1°C. The peak of the mountain experienced the rare occurrence of "glazed frost," adding a picturesque touch to the winter landscape.

The temperature will begin to climb starting tomorrow, and the minimum temperature will be above 10°C starting this Saturday according to the Shenzhen Meteorological Observatory.
