SZ wins 98 patent awards

Shenzhen secured a total of 98 awards at the 24th China Patent Award, up by 14% year on year, accounting for 10.47% of the total awards in China, as announced during the award ceremony held in the city of Dalian, Northeast China's Liaoning Province on Monday. 


The award ceremony was simultaneously hosted online in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province. The China Patent Award aims to recognize and applaud the outstanding contributions of patentees and inventors to technology (design) innovation and socioeconomic development.


Shenzhen-based firms clinched five gold awards, three of which securing the China Patent Gold Award honoring the innovative achievements of Shenzhen Mindray Bio-Medical Electronics Co. Ltd., China Nuclear Power Technology Research Institute Co. Ltd., and MGI Tech Co. Ltd. The other two gold awards were bestowed in the China Design category. Additionally, projects from Shenzhen secured seven silver awards and 86 excellence awards.


Official statistics show that in the first 10 months of this year, Shenzhen had a total of 197,900 patents authorized, 12,600 applications filed under PCT (Patent Cooperation Treaty), and 181,800 trademark registered, all ranking first among Chinese cities.


As of October, the city had stood strong with 292,000 effective patents, representing 7.3% of the national total. Furthermore, Shenzhen recorded 210,000 submissions for PCT, accounting for a 33.9% share in China and maintaining its position as the top city in China for 20 consecutive years.
