Six districts in Shenzhen have made it into the list of China’s top 100 districts in 2023, according to a list compiled and released by consultancy firm CCID Consulting, a subsidiary of the China Center for Information Industry Development, Shenzhen Special Zone Daily reported.

Nanshan District ranked first on the CCID list and has remained the frontrunner on the list for the sixth consecutive year. Futian, Bao’an, Longgang, Longhua and Luohu districts ranked second, fourth, fifth, 23rd, and 29th, respectively.

Among the top 10 districts on the list, Guangdong Province secured eight spots, same as last year, and the top seven districts were all from Guangdong. The province had a total of 17 districts among the top 100, tying with Jiangsu Province for the highest number of districts included in the list.

The ranking used a “dual thresholds” principle, which requires a district to have over 800 billion yuan (US$111.15 billion) worth of local gross domestic product and over 2 billion yuan in general public budget revenue.

Additionally, 23 indicators were employed to assess the districts’ development in terms of economic strength, growth momentum, internal support, regional capabilities and shared development.

In 2022, Nanshan’s GDP reached 803.58 billion yuan, making it the first district in Guangdong to cross the 800-billion-yuan mark. Nanshan maintained its economic leadership by sustaining the highest GDP among districts and counties in Guangdong over the past decade.

Guangzhou’s Tianhe and Huangpu districts, as well as Shunde’s Foshan and Nanhai districts also entered the top 10.
