A total of 98,000 vehicles have been inspected and released, and over 150,000 tons of goods have been exported over the past year through a program that aims to improve the efficiency of customs clearance of goods and increase the throughput capacity of airport yard operations, Shenzhen Customs said recently.

Since 2022, Shenzhen Customs has rolled out a series of reforms under the program at sea and air ports, aiming to optimize the logistics procedures supervised by Shenzhen’s customs authorities and enhance overall operational efficiency.

Tan Weiping, deputy general manager of the International Cargo Center Shenzhen, said the program has enabled an increasing number of products from the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area to access global markets through airport customs.

According to Tan, the customs clearance process for exports has further picked up its pace, resulting in a reduction of over 30% in the time goods spend at the cargo station, and improving goods turnover efficiency by about 45%.

Moreover, the cargo center’s capacity has been raised from 550 tons per day to 800 tons per day, Tan said.

As one of the important parts of the program, the pre-positioned tallying warehouse has proved to be effective in reducing transportation costs and expediting logistics clearance, according to the city’s customs authority.

Shenzhen airport’s first out-of-town pre-positioned warehouse was officially opened at Hongchang Logistics Park in the city of Zhongshan on May 31. On that day, approximately 11 tons of exported goods completed logistics clearance procedures at the Zhongshan warehouse before being transported to the Shenzhen airport international cargo station for export by air.

Tang Lingli, general manager of MBE Logistics, said that the export agency business is experiencing continuous growth as international freight routes at Shenzhen airport continue to expand.

“The program enables us to flexibly adjust declaration and entry times based on customers’ diverse goods types and export requirements,” Tang said.
