Enterprises and charity organizations in Shenzhen have donated money, medical materials and daily essentials to the quake-hit areas in Luding County in the Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province.

To ensure the supplies to Sichuan, Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport opened special passages for flights carrying rescue personnel and materials to airports in Chengdu, Mianyang, Xichang and Yibin, and reduced or exempted fees, the Shenzhen airport authority said. Those who need help can call 0755-23456789, the airport’s 24-hour service hotline.

Shortly after the 6.8-magnitude earthquake at 12:52 p.m. Monday, One Foundation initiated a quick response and dispatched essential supplies including 24,000 bottles of water, tents, sleeping bags and folding beds to the quake-hit areas. On Tuesday night, 1,000 sets of boxes of disaster relief supplies were sent from the One Foundation warehouses and will arrive in Luding today.

Tencent Foundation, in cooperation with other charities, also aided in rescue efforts by sending materials like tents and household disaster relief kits to Luding. BYD Automobiles Co. Ltd. announced Tuesday that it will donate 5 million yuan (US$716,805) for rescue and disaster relief in Luding and Shimian counties.

A total of 74 people had been killed in the earthquake as of 2 p.m. yesterday.
