THE city may collect kitchen waste from households, canteens or eateries at fixed time periods every day, according to draft amendments on the city’s garbage classification that were handed to lawmakers for second review Tuesday.
At the 36th meeting of the Standing Committee of the Sixth Municipal People’s Congress, it was announced that the city will collect and transport garbage after it is discarded at fixed time periods every day.
The urban administration in each district can decide on the time periods for garbage collection and transportation at different residential compounds, after considering their own situations. They can decide the number and types of dustbins to be put in public areas and negotiate with transport companies over such aspects as service, transportation, market exit and liability for violating rules.
According to the amendments, the city will consider gradually introducing specially designated unified garbage bags. The move is to help residents reduce garbage generation and foster the habit of precise garbage sorting.
