A smart face mask bin has been put into use in a residential compound in Nanwan Subdistrict in Longgang District, Shenzhen Evening News reported.
The yellow bin, developed by Shenzhen Yueneng Sanitation Technology, is said to be the country’s first smart bin to collect used face masks.
Residents can avoid contact while using the bin by QR code, face recognition technology or smart card.
The smart bin also has an electronic lock to protect masks from being taken away as well as an ultraviolet light on its inside to disinfect them.
Additionally, the bin can show the body temperature of the person who is throwing a used mask. When the bin is full, workers will be informed to dispose of its contents.
Wan Shengrong, the company’s vice president, said that they have received an order from Wuhan and will speed up production to satisfy the city’s need.
