Peleg Lewi, Consul General of Israel in Guangzhou, cheered up Shenzhen residents amid the weeklong COVID lockdown in a video he sent to Shenzhen Daily yesterday.

Due to the recent COVID flare-ups, Shenzhen has stepped up its epidemic prevention and control measures since Monday, by suspending bus and Metro services and placing housing compounds citywide under lockdown until Sunday.

“To all my friends in Shenzhen, I wish to offer you my support. These days will pass very quickly. We will win the battle against COVID-19. Be strong!” Lewi said in the video.

“Shenzhen is one of my favorite Chinese cities. The epidemic flare-ups in Shenzhen saddened me deeply. If there is anything I can do, be sure to let me know. I will try my best to give help and support. Let’s weather this difficult time in a spirit of unity,” Lewi told the Daily.

Lewi has visited Shenzhen several times, including for the 2021 Shenzhen Global Investment Promotion Conference.

Many people from the world are making their contribution to the fight against COVID-19 across the city.

In Nanshan District where 23,000 expats reside, around 200 expat volunteers from over 10 countries have served non-Chinese speaking residents in the registration for COVID vaccination and nucleic acid testing since the coronavirus pandemic started in 2020.

By now, the international volunteer team in the subdistrict, said to be the largest in Shenzhen, has served for a total of over 600 hours.
