Samsung Electronics plans to construct a communications equipment research institute in China, focused on the research and development of base stations, cutting-edge communications technology and technology in other sectors for China and the world’s communications equipment markets.
This project is rooted in Samsung’s “Second Samsung” plan for its China operations, and will serve as a core project for achieving “R&D Transfer” and other components of this plan.
The project’s local operating entity, Shenzhen Samsung Communications Technology Research Co., Ltd., was established in February 2013. The project will have around 300 researchers in its initial stage, and plans to call for this number to be increased to 1000 personnel within five years based on circumstances on the ground. The project will effectively increase the R&D capabilities of Shenzhen’s communications equipment industry, as well its degree of internationalization.
