City’s shopping festival makes a hit on internet

Shenzhen's three-month shopping festival, starting from Aug. 6, has been a big hit on the internet, according to the data released by the Shenzhen Municipal Commerce Bureau on Monday.


The event has been trending of various online platforms, showing citizens’ consumption fever. It was listed one of Aug. 6’s trending Sina Weibo topics with 60 million views. The Weibo account and WeChat official account of “深圳购物季” (Shenzhen Shopping Festival) and “深圳商务” (Shenzhen Commerce) offered cash coupons of 5,000 yuan (US$770) each to 10 lucky winners.


A livestream of the Shenzhen Shopping Festival opening ceremony started at 4 p.m. Aug. 6 on several platforms, including Sina, Douyin and Yishenzhen. Sina’s livestreaming attracted a total of 1.05 million viewers, who were scrambling to purchase discounted products, such as Chow Tai Fook diamonds and BYD e-vehicles at the night.


Another advertising platform is on WeChat Moments. The three-round promotional campaigns are expected to attract over 4.2 million viewers.


The search volume of #深圳购物季# (Shenzhen Shopping Festival) on Baidu has exceeded 22.8 million with 255 pieces of related information.


Douyin, Xiaohongshu and Bilibili also have taken part in advertising the shopping gala. Fifteen publications have gained over 50,000 thumbs-up. The event has been widely circulated in over 20 well-known newspapers and more than 200 online media outlets.


The shopping festival targeting three themes — joyful, fashion and quality consumption — will offer discounts totaling 1 billion yuan.
