Shopping festival offers discounts of ¥1b

The three-month-long Shenzhen Shopping Festival kicked off Friday with more than 500 activities featuring thousands of brands offering discounts totaling 1 billion yuan (US$154.2 million) to be held in more than 100 business areas until the end of October, Shenzhen Economic Daily reported.


The shopping festival is hosted by the Shenzhen Municipal Government, and co-organized by the Shenzhen Municipal Commerce Bureau, Municipal Industry and Information Technology Bureau, Municipal Culture, Radio Television, Tourism and Sports Bureau and Municipal Market Supervision and Regulation Bureau.


The 2021 festival aims to lead a trend and create new consumption using new products, new technologies and new supplies in Shenzhen. The city strives to create the largest shopping festival that has the most international influence in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It is an event that has attracted the most businesses and has offered the highest discounts in the Greater Bay Area.


Consumers will find three distinguishing themes each month such as joyful shopping, fashion consumption and quality consumerism.


The first month, or Joyful Shopping Month, highlights happiness in shopping and activities including sports, tourism and E-sports. Fashion Consumption Month in September features fashion costumes, cosmetics and wedding-related products. 


During Quality Consumerism Month in October, a wide range of local brand promotion activities will be held across the city.


Additionally, the shopping festival plans to open an e-commerce platform selling products made in Shenzhen. A combination of live commerce and offline store visits make it possible for consumers to purchase high-quality goods without stepping out.


To boost the night economy, more than 30 events, such as Shenzhen Nightlife Economic Meeting and 68-hour promotions and experience activities, featuring food, culture and entertainment, have also been arranged during the three-month shopping festival.


This shopping spree also targets young consumers and aims to stimulate consumption via various promotions for products like auto and household appliances.
