SZ gets 5.18M visits during holiday

Shenzhen received 5.18 million traveler visits during the five-day May Day holiday that ended Wednesday, hitting a new high over the same period in the past five years, sources from the Shenzhen Municipal Culture, Radio, Television, Tourism and Sports Bureau said.


The number of visits posted a 107.8% growth year on year, bringing in 3.88 billion yuan (US$562.5 million) in revenue, up 114.05% year on year. The number of visits and tourism revenue went up 16.36% and 10.85%, respectively, compared to the same period in 2019. Hotel occupancy also reached a record high.


Data from online travel agencies showed that the top five hot spots in Shenzhen during the holiday are Window of the World, OCT East, Happy Valley, Shenzhen Safari Park and Splendid China • China Folk Culture Villages.


Parks in Shenzhen received some 6.83 million visits in total during the May Day holiday, up 166.54% compared to the holiday last year (about 2.57 million visits), according to information released by the city’s urban management authority Thursday.


The city-level parks received 1.72 million visits, while the district-level parks received over 5.1 million visits during the holiday.


Parks across the city held a series of activities during the May Day holiday. For instance, the 2023 Shenzhen Bay Summer Concert was held from Monday to Wednesday in Shenzhen Bay Park, attracting many visitors.


Leading travel service provider Trip.com Group, formerly known as Ctrip, reported that Shenzhen was one of the top 10 tourist destinations during the five-day holiday. The other top 10 tourist destinations were Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Chongqing, Xi’an and Wuhan.
