The video of “Riverdance: 25th Anniversary Show,” celebrating 25 years of the Grammy award-winning Irish dance extravaganza, will be shown.
“Riverdance” is a theatrical show consisting mainly of traditional Irish music and dance. With a score composed by Bill Whelan, it originated as an interval performance act during the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest, featuring Irish dancing champions Jean Butler and Michael Flatley and the vocal ensemble Anúna. Shortly afterwards, husband and wife production team John McColgan and Moya Doherty expanded it into a stage show, which opened in Dublin in 1995. Since then, the show has visited hundreds of venues worldwide, making it one of the most successful dance shows in the world.
Now 25 years later, Whelan has rerecorded his mesmerizing soundtrack while producer Doherty and director McColgan have completely reimagined the ground-breaking show with innovative and spectacular lighting, projection, stage and costume designs. Staged at the 3Arena Dublin in 2020, the exact spot that the “Riverdance” story began, the 25th anniversary gala performance was filmed live for its worldwide cinema release.
“We are thrilled that 25 years later ‘Riverdance’ continues its record-breaking story with its first cinema release to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the show,” said McColgan.
