Fans of Chinese folk-rock band Wu Tiao Ren should not miss a newly opened pop-up store in Nantou Ancient Town, where they can buy the popular band’s albums, posters and merch.

Hailing from Haifeng, Guangdong, the band’s core members, Renke and Maotao, have been singing since 2008 about their lives in Haifeng and Guangzhou. Lyrics of their songs are mainly about the life experiences that they are familiar with, or stories or feelings they would like to share. They depict their lives amazingly in dulcet melodies and various dialects. Beyond the sound, one can also find their satire on modern times.

Songs by Wu Tiao Ren are infused with southern flavor. Upon hearing the sound of their guitars and accordions (and the occasional harmonica), one can feel a breeze blowing from their small seaside hometown or the urban villages in Guangzhou.

The band reached national stardom this summer after participating in the music show “The Big Band” Season 2. Their humorous traits and typical Guangdong small-town appearances brought them very close to fans.
