Themed “Arts Matter, Fringe Together,” the 11th Shenzhen Fringe Festival is here again and runs through Nov. 29. A total of 43 art groups and artists are presenting an art fiesta to Shenzheners around the corner.

This year, the festival focuses on four major areas: Crossover Cooperation, Youth Cultivation, New Work Commission and Local Participation, and consists of six sections: Fringe Stage, Fringe Open, Fringe Picnic, Fringe in Town, Fringe Shop and Fringe Online. Public spaces such as rooftops, parks, streets, bus stops and book bars are turned into performance venues, becoming parts of Shenzhen’s culture and spirit.

The festival has even invited Evening Cinema, a band from Japan, to create the theme song for Shenzhen Fringe.

Drama ‘La Town’

Created by renowned Chinese artist Cao Fei and scored by sound artist and experimental electronic musician Li Jinsong, “La Town” depicts the past and fate of a small town in an audio-visual presentation.

There is a place called “Night Museum,” which is open only at night, and is currently exhibiting a large exhibition about the town of La Town. It seems that everyone has heard the story about La Town. At that time, after an unknown disaster, there was no sunlight in La Town; the polar night occupied almost all of it, and the occasional white nights were recorded in the town’s history. As time passes by, the stories of the town’s past are stored in the museum, which becomes the only access to awareness of La Town’s past.
