An exhibition featuring 547 illustrations created by 131 Chinese and international illustrators is being held at Dawan Ancestral Residence in Pingshan District.

Highlighted illustrators include Roberto Innocenti, Lorenzo Mattotti, Chiara Carrer, Sergio Ruzzier and Beatrice Alemagna.

“Cinderella” by Roberto Innocenti.

Innocenti is known for his highly detailed, painterly style and his devotion to realistic representations in such classic works as “Cinderella,” “The Adventures of Pinocchio,” “A Christmas Carol” and “Nutcracker.” Innocenti’s illustrations are unmistakable, demonstrating a delicacy of palette as well as a refinement of line, both of which are surprising in light of the fact that Innocenti is completely self-trained in art.

Mattotti’s illustrations have been published in magazines such as Cosmopolitan, Vogue, The New Yorker, Le Monde and Vanity Fair. In comics, Mattotti won an Eisner Award in 2003 for his “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” graphic novel.

Carrer has been creating stories for children for over 20 years. Since 1990, she has published over 100 books in Europe and won many prizes, including the New York Times Best Illustrated Award in 2012. She teaches both at the ISIA in Urbino and the Academy of Fine Arts of Bologna.

Ruzzier began his career as an illustrator in 1986, and he has been creating pictures and stories for international magazines and book publishers. His work has been awarded by American Illustration, the Society of Illustrators, Communication Arts and the Society of Publication Designers. He won the Parents’ Choice Gold Medal for “The Room of Wonders” and for his illustrations for “Why Mole Shouted.”

Alemagna has worked as a poster artist for Center Pompidou for over 10 years. Her book “On a Magical Do-Nothing Day” was among the 10 best illustrated children’s books of 2017, according to the New York Times. This book was also awarded the Golden Medal for Original Art by the Society of Illustrators, New York. She is the recipient of the 2010 Andersen Prize for illustrator of the year and was nominated for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award four times from 2014 to 2017.
