More than 100 artworks by Russian-French artist Marc Chagall are on display at Yealife at Yitian Holiday Plaza.

“Maternity” (1954)

Chagall (1887-1985) was associated with several major artistic styles and created works in virtually every artistic format, including painting, book illustrations, stained glass, stage sets, ceramics, tapestries and fine art prints.

According to art historian Michael J. Lewis, Chagall was considered to be “the last survivor of the first generation of European modernists.” Using the medium of stained glass, he produced windows for the Reims and Metz cathedrals, windows for the United Nations and the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Jerusalem Windows in Israel.

He experienced modernism’s “golden age” in Paris, where “he synthesized the art forms of cubism, symbolism, and Fauvism, and the influence of Fauvism gave rise to surrealism.” Chagall once said: “In our life, there is a single color, as on an artist’s palette, which provides the meaning of life and art. It is the color of love.”
