Yuan Yawei

Young Chinese singer Yuan Yawei, also known as Tia Ray, will give her “Tiara for You” concert May 18 in Bao’an Sports Center.

Yuan began to work as a background singer for Chinese singers including Zhang Liangying and Ma Tianyu in 2004. In 2013, she appeared on the Chinese singing contest “The Voice of China” and released her debut studio album. In 2017, she appeared on the Chinese singing contest “Singer.”

Born in Hunan, the singer-songwriter has a bewitching voice and wide vocal range, which support her changing music styles, from pop and rock to her signature soulful tunes.

Xiang Wangshu

Shenzhen student Xiang Wangshu, who is now studying cello at Mannes School of Music in New York City, will present Franck’s “Cello Sonata,” Saint-Saens’ “Swan” and Chopin’s “Cello Sonata.” In 2016, she won the American Protégé Concerto Competition, was second in the American Protégé Piano and Strings Competition and was first runner-up in the New England Philharmonic Concerto Competition. As a chamber musician, she has performed with Paul Neubaur, Wu Han, Clive Greensmith, Ivan Chan and Keith Robinson. She is a cellist in the Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, and has performed in Boston, Reykjavik and Oslo.
