Chinese xiangsheng performer Guo Degang will present a night of jokes along with his Deyun Society members.

Guo Degang

Xiangsheng, also known as crosstalk, is a traditional form of Chinese comedic performing arts. It is typically in the form of a dialogue between two performers or even less frequently, one performer or a group.

The xiangsheng language, rich in puns and allusions, is delivered in a rapid, banter-like style, typically in the Beijing dialect or in Chinese with a strong northern accent.

Guo is largely credited with renewing interest among young audiences reared in the Internet age who have found xiangsheng to be boring and didactic. He gained national fame after founding Deyun Society in 1995, a xiangsheng performance troupe.
